About

Steve graduated from Bournemouth University in 1992 and holds an ONC and HNC in Building Studies (architectural). He started his career in the architectural department of a national house builder where he learnt the importance of comprehensive working drawings. He then progressed to employment within one of Bournemouth’s principal architectural practices in the late 1980’s.

Having set up ‘Stephen J Whitham associates’ in 1992, he has designed many exceptional housing developments and ‘one off’ houses for developers and private clients, gaining recognition from Local Authorities for his work. Projects have included barn conversions, extensions to listed buildings, developments within conservation areas, works to commercial premises and general householder extension applications.

‘Apart from creativity and presentation skills to deliver the best design solution for a project, good communication is fundamental. I believe my relaxed, down-to-earth manner allows me to develop projects with both client and planning authorities in a really positive way.’

‘A large percentage of new instructions come via personal recommendation from clients, builders and professional colleagues, for which I am very grateful and do not take for granted.’

‘Practicing on a personal scale, with longstanding professional consulting colleagues alongside, allows clients the assurance that their project will receive the individual, personal attention that they deserve.’

Steve is married to Heidi and they have a daughter, Mae… who gets tired of her Dad saying she should study architecture when she leave school, as it’s the best career!

Their home in Stourpaine is an ongoing project and passion, whether attempting to get ‘hands-on’ with the final phase of their build project, or doing their best at growing veg in the garden. Mountain biking (…or mostly maintaining Heidi’s mountain bike these days…), daily walks up Hod Hill with the dogs, ‘practicing’ guitar, following Formula 1, are some things that you may find Steve doing…when he’s not working.
